Cycling Around Miyako Island

The main underwater observation facility features 24 acrylic-panel windows through which visitors can view a part of nature connected to the vast ocean.

Ikemajima, located about 1.5 km northwest of Miyakojima, is accessible by car via the 1,425-meter-long Ikemajima Bridge from Miyakojima.

The mangrove forest in Shimajiri is the largest of its kind in the Miyako Islands, growing in a cove (Batara) that extends about 1 km inland. With the completion of the Shimajiri Bridge (Sumajii-bashi) and a walking trail in September 2002, it has become easy to visit.

Kaikokan is a tourist facility that houses a "Shell Museum" displaying shells collected from the seas around Japan and from around the world, as well as an observation restaurant, a gift shop, and a shell craft corner.

Taking advantage of its natural cove, Imgya Marine Garden offers calm waters, making it an ideal spot for scuba diving lessons and other activities. On land, there are walking trails, and the rest area at the top offers a spectacular view.

A wide variety of fresh ingredients and local specialties from Miyako Island are all gathered here. The complex also houses a store operated directly by the Miyako Fisheries Cooperative, a Miyako soba restaurant, and a shop selling island-style sweets.

Located in the city center, it is a popular beach where locals come to relax. In the summer, safety nets are installed to protect against box jellyfish, so families with young children can enjoy the beach with peace of mind.
